Apart from connecting the Russian capitals, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the high-speed Sapsan train also runs on the St. Petersburg to Nizhny Novgorod route.

​There's only one Sapsan departure per day from St. Petersburg to Nizhny Novgorod and one departure on the reverse route from Nizhny Novgorod to St. Petersburg.
The journey takes a little over 8 hours, and the train makes stops in the following towns en route: Uglovka, Tver, Vladimir, Dzerzhinsk, as well as Moscow.

Importantly, this train stops at Moscow's Kursky Train Station, unlike the rest of the Sapsans, which go to Leningradsky Station. The average stop time in Moscow is 14 minutes.
